The Yoga Life Altar
All altars provide a meditative focal point. As such, altars are comprised of items that remind us of universal truths and that radiate powerful spiritual vibrations that help uplift the mind and open the heart.
The Yoga Life Society altars reflect the harmony of interfaith understanding. The center of the altar is an interfaith yantra composed of all the colors of the rainbow, it is a geometric representation of the levels of creation.
This yantra was developed by Sri Swami Satchidananda, the founder and spiritual head of the Integral Yoga Institutes and Satchidananda Ashrams. Used in their logo and on their altars, it is also on all Yoga Life Society altars, reflecting the Yoga lineage of Reverend Jaganath.
The altar also includes . . .
•A light that represents the one AbsoluteTruth that is common to all faith traditions.
•A crystal earth globe to remind us to send thoughts of lovingkindess to all who suffer.
•Photos that honor our lineage of teachers: Sri Guruji Reverend Jaganath, Sri Swami Satchidananda Maharaj, Master Sivananda Maharaj.
•A Sanskrit “OM” that represents the lineage of all Yoga masters from the ancient past to the present and future.
All Faiths Reliquary
Our main altar at Serenity houses a unique item - an All Faiths Reliquary. Located inside the base of the large oil lamp, it has holy items from all major faith traditions, precious and semi precious gems, holy soil from around the world, a piece of meteorite to represent the cosmos, and a collection of especially potent healing herbs. In addition, all of the basic elements are included: earth. water, air, and fire. Together, all of these items radiate a potent energy of healing and harmony. Just being near the altar brings great benefit. Please click here for a description of the holy items included in the reliquary.
Altar of the Goddess
Facing the main altar is an altar dedicated to the Divine Feminine. The entire created universe is the body of the Divine Mother. She is the source and power of creation. Merciful, and the bestower of wisdom and prosperity, she is represented by a unique image meant to serve as a symbol of all aspects of the Mother. She is Goddess Jagadamba, the Divine Mother of the Universe.
Altar of Sage Patanjali
Also opposite our main altar is an altar dedicated to the Father of Yoga, the sage, Patanjali. This great master is author of the Yoga Sutras, the single most important sacred text on Yoga philosophy and practice.
The bottom half of his body has the form of a snake. In ancient India, snakes were considered guardians of sacred wisdom.
The Yoga Life Altar
The yantra in the center was developed by Sri Swami Satchidananda, the founder and spiritual head of the Integral Yoga Institutes and Satchidananda Ashrams. Used in their logo and on their altars, it is also on all Yoga Life Society altars, reflecting the Yoga lineage of Reverend Jaganath Carrera.

A Powerful Way to Connect to the Divine
An ancient and powerful devotional ritual that focuses on Light as the symbol of the Absolute, every object used in a puja generates and holds healing energy. Because of this, many who attend look forward to receiving the holy ash, blessed water, and food (usually fruit or nuts) offered during the puja.
